When Hammond Media Group set out to develop SmilingSherpas.com, we knew we wanted to use an agile WordPress theme that was user friendly, easy on the eyes and adhered to the K.I.S.S. theory (which we love!).

We reviewed hundreds of WordPress themes, and we finally decided upon the ‘Elegant’ theme because of it’s flexibility and visual appeal. After creating a simple navigation structure to ensure that users find what they seek, we chose to highlight the Smiling Sherpas logo throughout the site to reinforce the brand. We also highlighted the team of smiling Sherpas as well as the “Successful Summits” which showcased Smiling Sherpas’ talent as well as their success stories.

Social media was incorporated into the site — users can ‘follow us’ in the footer and the posts/pages incorporate ‘share’, ‘like’ and ‘plus 1″ functionality. Feeds were made accessible (twitter and RSS in the footer) as well.

In terms of content, we wrote it all. We researched all of their services, gathered the most pertinent information and wrote original content from scratch. Once the first draft was laid down, we edited, edited, and edited some more. Going forward, we will help Smiling Sherpas incorporate more SlideShares, videos and original content into the site in order to drive traffic, educate their audience and win new business.

Most importantly, the main goal of gathering prospects and fans who turn into clients meant we needed to encourage email sign-ups. So, we incorporated a simple and immediate scroll-triggered email sign-up box towards the bottom of pages and posts for easy registration by engaged users. We also include a MailChimp email sign-up form at the end of most posts.
