Case Study: Website Development (BioInvest)

It’s critical that the web portal, Bioinvest.com, gives subscribers timely information and analysis so those subscribers can make savvy and well-informed investment decisions about the biotechnology industry and the companies they follow.

Thus, when BioInvest wanted to overhaul their website to better showcase their award-winning Medical Technology Stock Letter and meet the needs of their subscription-based business model, they turned to Connie Hammond to tackle this important piece of their online marketing strategy.

Although their existing website was functioning in the sense that they were able to offer periodic biotech updates to their visitors, it lacked many of the bells and whistles necessary to showcase their content and build their membership.

Building a Membership Website

BioInvest needed a new and improved website which reinforced their professional image as well as contributed to their sound reputation as thought leaders in the biotech field. Most importantly, their new website needed a membership aspect to manage existing members as well as encourage new subscriptions.

Basecamp

We began the process like we do with all clients — asking them to provide at least three to five website examples they liked so we had a solid idea of what they preferred in terms of layout, features and overal aesthetic. While they searched for industry examples, we set up their website project on Basecamp’s collaborative project management software which served as repository for all project discussions, documents, to-dos, emails, requests and feedback.

Once the client decided on the recommended color scheme, the content requirements, the use cases and the general wireframes, we were ready to build.

Using the WordPress Suffusion theme combined with Wishlist Member software, we were able to achieve their desired result of a membership website that served both existing subscribers and potential customers. We created a members-only area where subscribers could access the Medical Technology Stock Letter archives as well as myriad company updates including time-sensitive buy/sell recommendations. We also organized their content in a way that enhanced the overall user experience, including those non-subscribers who were able access a limited number of whitepapers so they understood the real value being offered.
